The James Hart Chess Club
Course Description
Students in grades 6th through 8th at James Hart are eligible to join the James Hart Chess Club. The club will be active during the months of September through April. The James Hart Chess Club will meet in the James Hart media center, , on Mondays and Wednesdays afterschool until 4:45pm. Students, please be sure to have transportation to pick you up no later than 5:00pm. Students will have permission to use you’re their cellphones 20 minutes before the end of each chess meeting.
All chess club members are encouraged to compete on our team against other schools. A schedule of our conference games for this season will be distributed soon. There is also a conference championship that will be scheduled sometime in November or December. Home games usually start after 3:00 P.M. For away games the team travels by bus with the girls’ basketball team. We will depart from the sports complex at about 2:50 P.M. Expect your child to arrive at James Hart between 5:00 P.M. and 5:45P.M. The arrival time varies depending on travel distance. It is important for members of the chess club to listen to the daily announcements for updates including game/practice cancellations.

There is a $15 activity fee that will help pay for minor expenses including: 1. a startup membership with Chess Magnet School, 2. Chess equipment, and 3. End of the year trophies and awards.
